Patra’s Picks: What Kind of Pet Is Best for Your Astrological Sign?
When I’m not hanging out on the bookcase, one of my favorite hobbies these days is to peruse the horoscopes in the local newspaper. It’s so fun to read through the paper and see what the next day, week, or month to come has to offer me. And as one of the official mascots of the Texas Alliance for Homeless Pets, I think it’s my duty to tell you what I see in the future for you: a new friend!
I’ve learned a lot about astrological signs these days, so I think I can safely say that I know which traits characterize each star sign, from the super ones to the shortcomings. When we search for a companion, we hope to complete ourselves in some way, and adopting a pet who complements your personality is a great way to become a better-rounded person!
Without further ado, I present Patra’s Picks—a fun little horoscope to help guide you towards your purrfect pet!
Aquarius (January 21 – February 19)
While some people see you as cold, Aquarius, I know you’re really just lost in thought! This is a sign that’s incredibly logical and great at analysis. They succeed in left-brained fields, particularly those involving finance, computer programming, or engineering.
The first half of this month will bring you some bad news, but it will resolve itself by the third week, Aquarius. You’ll deal with it in your characteristically stoic way, but you’ll quickly realize you need a companion to keep you grounded and bring you out of your shell. My crystal ball tells me that you should look into adopting an American Pit Bull Terrier—they’re loyal and strong-willed, but they love an owner who will provide rules and structure. They’re also adorably exuberant as puppies!
Pisces (February 20 – March 20)
The Fish is known as being highly compassionate and sensitive people. They seek escapist, imaginative hobbies like sketching, reading science fiction, or playing collaborative roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons. They excel in jobs that combine creativity and empathy, like social work, therapy, or writing books.
This month will bring the Pisces on a life-changing quest to find a new friend—and perhaps that friend would best be the Turkish Van cat. This breed is mild-tempered and affectionate, but usually more curious than the average Pisces. Turkish Vans also enjoy water, which matches well with this aquatic sign!
Aries (March 21 – April 20)
Aries is known amongst the Zodiac as one of the most spontaneous of the signs. A bit ambitious, a bit rambunctious, wholly optimistic, the Ram loves to command the room, whether it’s the boardroom or the living room. This month, a break in routine will change your day for the better.
The Ram can be considered a bit flaky, so consider whether getting a pet is really right for you at this time. If you’ve really set on adopting in North Texas, a well-adjusted cat is exactly what’s in the tarot cards, and the Exotic Shorthair breed could be perfect for you, Aries. Most similar in temperament to the easy-going Persian, this breed is known for its low-key greetings and soothing presence.
Taurus (April 21 – May 21)
Considered almost universally as mulishly stubborn, the Bull simply knows exactly what he or she wants. They’re unwilling to compromise their principles, and as such, make great leaders of companies, Girl Scout troops, and universities.
Taurus can really benefit from learning to compromise when the situation calls for it, however, which is why the crystal ball tells me that a Taurus will meet its match when paired with the equally stubborn Siberian Husky. I recommend you get yourself down to our partner, the Texas Husky Rescue, before the month ends and the stars fall out of alignment, Taurus!
Gemini (May 22 – June 21)
The Twins are known for their duality, their constantly changing moods, and their curiosity. They blend in well with any kind of crowd; they are the chameleons of the star signs. This month, my cards say that a new energy will bring a change of heart regarding a difficult decision of yours.
New energy? Change of heart? Purrsonally, I don’t think you need to be clairvoyant to see that pretty clearly spells out a visit to a North Texas pet rescue! An Australian Shepherd mix is the best bet for you, Gemini. Their focused, energetic nature forces you to face your short attention span head on, and you’ll make a dear friend in the process.
Cancer (June 22 – July 22)
Happy birthday, Cancer!
While Crabs receive a bad rep of being moody, they’re truly the most nurturing of all the star signs. They rule the realm of home, hearth and hospitality and excel in hotel management, restaurants and childcare.
Cancers are natural homebodies, they can find themselves accidentally isolated, so it’s important for you Crabs to find a pet that will bring them back out into the world from time to time! I don’t see any one kind of breed for you, but my crystal ball does say that a Cancer is the ideal foster parent for a special-needs or senior pet because of your incredible skills at nurturing.
